Biden Taps Head of Cal OSHA to Lead Federal OSHA

On April 9, 2021, President Joe Biden nominated Doug Parker, the current chief of California’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA), to serve as assistant secretary for occupational safety and health at the Department of Labor.

Parker of San Francisco, California, previously served inthe Obama Administration as Deputy Assistant Secretary
for Policy in the Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and  Health Administration, and was a member of the Biden-Harris transition team focused on worker health and safety issues. He also held positions as a senior policy advisor and special assistant at the Department of Labor.

Parker has served in his present role as the head of Cal/ OSHA since 2019 and most recently garnered attention for helping to pass Cal/OSHA’s emergency Covid-19 standard.

Parker’s nomination will go to the senate for approval.
